Application Guidelines for the TIA Fellow Call<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the TIA Fellow funding period, the researcher carries out their own research project in collaboration with a company. The aim of the funding is twofold: to provide the academic partner with first-hand insight into research questions that are relevant to industry and to give the company partner unique access to top-level research expertise in fields of mutual interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding is granted for 12 months. The project may last for a maximum of three years, during which the Fellow works at the company\u2019s premises for a period equivalent to one year. The company provides the facilities, equipment, and other resources required for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project may consist of joint pre-competitive research and\/or other activities supporting such research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The funding is intended for professors (full professors and associate professors) employed in permanent positions at universities, as well as research professors and leading researchers employed by research institutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applicants must be employed by a Finnish university (including the National Defence University) or a Finnish government research institute. The Foundation will assess the applicant\u2019s qualifications based on the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applicants must have an identified company partner that participates in the project and provides suitable working conditions for the Fellow. As a rule, the applicant may not have significant ties to the company partner, such as membership on the company’s board of directors or ownership exceeding 5% of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company partner must be registered in Finland, have active business operations, and employ at least one full-time employee. The company may operate internationally, but it must be a Finnish company. During the funding period, the Fellow may also spend periods of varying length at other company locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company must demonstrate a genuine interest in research and a willingness to participate in the project. The company\u2019s contribution to the project must be described in the application as an in-kind contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding Period and Eligible Costs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Funding is granted for 12 months of full-time work carried out at the company\u2019s premises. The funding period may be divided across one or more years but must be completed within three years from the start of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding must be activated no later than 1 March 2027. Any postponement of an awarded grant may be agreed separately with the Foundation for justified reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding may cover salary costs, employer’s indirect personnel costs, material costs, travel costs, and other justified project-related expenses. Applicants are responsible for preparing the project budget as part of the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
